Bedwetting Buddy

medication
October 5th, 2009
I have heard one can take medication to prevent bed wetting. My 10 yr old now only bed wets 3/4 times a month (used to be 3/4 a week). He has wet the bed on every cub camp, some times 3 nights in a row. He loves these camps but is getting very distressed. Do you have to take the medication continually or can you take them for occasions like sleep overs and cub camps etc

the medication my son has is called desmomelts and although he does take them every night, I’m sure that you can take them just for one off occasions as when he went on holiday with my parents to florida, although he was on a break form these tablets the doctor said it was OK to take them for the 2 weeks he was on holiday.

It is lovely to hear that your son loves going to cub camp. So many children won’t go on trips for fear of wetting the bed. However, it is so important that the bedwetting doesn’t define a child or stop them doing things they enjoy. The medicine you are referring to is called desmopressin and works by reducing the amount of urine production. This medication is often used for short periods to prevent bedwetting when a child is sleeping away from home. You will need to go to your GP to get a prescription. I hope your son has a lovely camping trip and continues to enjoy cub camps and sleepovers.
