Bedwetting Buddy

Bed wetting & stammer
November 4th, 2009
Hi Just read another message about bed wetting and stammer and to be honest it’s almost the same as us. My son is 4 and a half and I started leaving his nappy off in April. This did actually coincide with him developing a stammer which I’ve only just realised reading the other message. I have to limit his last drink to a few mouthfuls of milk with his dinner at about half 4 and then don’t give him anything else. I also do a dream wee about 9 but I’d say c.twice a week he wets the bed still. I’m hardly giving him any fluids as it is and am not sure how else to manage it?

Take a moment, if you haven’t already, and check the statistics page and you’ll see that your son is completely within expected behavior for his age. Developing a stammer often coincides with a situation that the child finds stressful and is possibly more of an indication of what is going on with him. His bedwetting is not outside the norm at this point and it is quite possible that the stammer is a result of the stress he might be feeling. It usually more difficult to alleviate a stammer than it is to end bedwetting – which often just ends naturally. So I would say that right now your first issue is to make sure that he isn’t feeling pressured in any way. Four and a half and wetting twice a week isn’t the end of the world. I know it is sometimes disappointing and impractical but I would say that your priority right now is making sure he is as stress free as possible in the hope that the stammer recedes. Good luck!
